THE TRUTH WE PROCLAIM
The following list of beliefs is the bedrock of our standards of truth and practice. This is what we teach, share, and genuinely live as a congregation of Christians.
God
The Creator of all that is known and unknown genuinely exists. We boldly acknowledge that God is perfectly able to engage humanity in the clarity and purpose of loving, serving, and encouraging each other.
Jesus
Is the perfect reflection and essence of God. In every way Christ’s life and mission was to point others to the reality, grace, and righteousness of God. Jesus offers to humanity a calling to follow His example of accepting those who long to be connected to something more than just life as they know it. Jesus represents a new way of thinking, being, and sharing life.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is often compared to the wind that blows the leaves in the trees; we cannot see the wind itself but we can easily witness its effect. The Holy Spirit of God empowers believers to love, understand, and become more than they could ever be on their own.
The Church
There are two basic truths about “church.”
- Anyone and everyone who hears, understands, and answers the call of God through the life and mission of Jesus is a full and cherished member of the universal (anywhere-everywhere) body of believers.
- For those who desire to join a local family of professed Christians and after they become recognized and accepted by that local congregation, they are members of a visible community that learns, serves, worships, and prays together to demonstrate their connection to Jesus Christ.
The Bible
The Bible is an honored book of inspired scripture that has been written over many centuries by lots of individuals, who desired to share their experiences and understanding of God. We firmly attest to the foundational importance, value, directives, and Divine truths found within its pages.
We recognize the Bible as a testimony of faith and practice by those who desire to honor, love, and obediently reflect the will and ways of God through the life and teachings of Jesus. The truth proclaimed on the pages of the Bible, especially the New Testament, breathe life and purpose for every Christian believer and those seeking critical answers regarding their own lives.
Here at Vergennes Church, we strive to know deeply what the Bible means and how it applies rather than limiting ourselves and others to the mere words on its pages.

You and Your Family
For us, it is essential to cherish and respect each person as they arrive into this congregational family of followers of Jesus. You are important and valuable just as you are. Your faults and personal shortcomings are the evidence that life isn’t perfect. However, we know a God that accepted and loved us before we were perfect in any way.
Vergennes is NOT a museum of saints but a living testimony of sinners saved and reconciled by the gracious love of God through our awakening and devotion to Jesus. We are a grateful and accepting group of Christians who will walk with you and your family as we learn and serve Christ together.
